Florida Open Carry Bill is Dead
Florida Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Miguel Diaz de la Portilla killed the open firearms carry bill (SB 200), along with the college campus carry and airport terminal carry bills. The Miami Republican blocked all three bills from being heard in committee, effectively euthanizing them for this legislative session. Diaz de la Portilla expressed concerns about public safety and unintended consequences of the open carry bill. Aaron on SHOT Show Handguns
Randall, I missed you at SHOT this year. I was able to shoot the Kimber K6s and was so glad I did. Though compact, and just a little short for a meaty grip, the K6s still felt good in my hands. The sights are a bit low profile, but I was still able to obtain a sight picture rather quickly. Now for the best part. The trigger is absolutely amazing! Improved Beretta PX4 Compact Carry
Beretta has a makeover for the PX4 Storm Compact. Competitive shooter and Marine Earnest Langdon worked up some fixes for the platform that increase the gun’s ergonomics and shootability. Is that a word? The result is the PX4 Compact Carry. Langdon started with lower profile safety and slide release levers. Next came a larger magazine release button and refined trigger pull. Rounding out the tactile refinements is the Talon wrap textured grips that increase traction in the hand. Other upgrades include tritium night sights and a gray Cerakoted slide. New Kimber K6s Revolver
Now we are talkin’! Kimber is set to release a brand new DAO revolver to the market in March of this year. The Kimber K6s is a six-shot, stainless steel .357 Magnum wheelgun with a 2 inch barrel and internal hammer. This one is aimed center-of-mass at the concealed carry crowd. The Kimber K6s has material milled from the revolver’s cylinder, resulting in an interesting series of alternating flats and curves. Like a Ruger LCR, the cylinder release is a push button affair. Gun Control Sells More Guns
This is an interesting graphic from the New York Times charting gun sales for the last fifteen years. The tallies come from the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The NYT article posits that firearms sales increase sharply after talk of gun control, as happened in December. I think these numbers show how serious Americans are about exercising and maintaining their Second Amendment rights. In 2014, handgun sales exceeded long gun sales for the first time in the U.S. To me, this is indicative of people purchasing personal self-defense firearms rather than sporting arms. Walther Releases New PPS M2 Pistol
Walther Arms has released a variation of the PPS to the market, the PPS M2. The new PPS M2 has rounded looks that are more sleek than its blocky Teutonic predecessor, which is now called the PPS Classic. The 9mm M2 is shipping to local gun stores now. A .40 cal. version will come in the Spring of this year. The PPS M2 retains the same dimensions and basic functionality of the Classic, but the M2 has had its ambidextrous paddle mag release and Weaver rail eliminated. New SCCY CPX-3 .380 Pistol
In 2016, SCCY Industries will be coming out with their first .380 ACP pistol, the CPX-3. The Daytona Beach manufacturer’s new handgun will utilize SCCY founder Joe Roebuck’s patent-pending Quad-Lock system to stabilize the barrel and improve accuracy over their previous DAO guns. The Roebuck Quad-Lock will likely be featured on future SCCY’s. While maintaining the general looks of their 9mm Parabellum CPX-2 pistol, the CPX-3 will be just slightly smaller. A CPX-3 holds 10 rounds in its double-stacked magazine, so it will not be a micro-380. Pre-production photos show the “Dash 3” obviously bigger than a Ruger LCP or Kel-Tec P3AT. Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey is not afraid to give an opinion. I think his observations have gone viral because they make us reflect on America and safety. Gun sales in Florida have risen since the San Bernardino Islamic terrorist attack. FDLE reports firearms purchase background checks were up 73% last Saturday and 86% Sunday, compared to the same dates a year ago. People do not feel safe. Randall

Terrorists and Cops Part Two
Two weeks ago, I wrote about terrorism migrating to our shores in the aftermath of the Paris attacks. Then came the ISIS-inspired San Bernardino massacre. Sadly, a homegrown extremist shooting occurred sooner than anyone thought would. Local, state, and federal agencies responded swiftly to contain and extinguish the threat in SoCal. One of my colleagues complained Thursday that many departments have a “it won’t happen here” attitude toward agency preparedness. He suggested more active shooter, tactical combat casualty care, and improvised explosive device training for all officers. I would listen to him. Florida Open Carry Bills in the Legislature
Imagine you are working road patrol in your uniform and marked squad car at the scene of an urban disturbance when you see a man walking up behind you on a crowded sidewalk. Reconsidering a Carry Gun
A co-worker has been literally salivating (his desk is a wet mess) over the idea of buying a new Glock 43. Although he was gravitating toward the .380 ACP Glock 42, the later introduction of a similar frame size chambered in 9mm made up his mind for him. Detectives at our agency are issued the .40 cal.
