This press release went out after the IPMBA Conference in May. I recently received another email notification about the bike. FLIR Entry Level Thermal Imagers for Law Enforcement
FLIR Systems, Inc. has released a new line of thermal imagers that are affordable (by thermal imaging standards). The PS-series is initially aimed toward the civilian hunting market, but will branch into the law enforcement and maritime markets this year. The E-series is an industrial use thermal imager with police applications. Starting prices for the units are $1,999.00 for the PS-series and $2,500.00 for the E-series. I stopped at the FLIR booth at the 2012 SHOT Show and checked out one of their Scout PS24 imagers. This model is an entry level device, but it has terrific tactical potential. Futuristic Plate Frame from S&S Precision
At the SOFIC Show, S&S Precision had their new Plate Frame on display. It is eye-catching in its high technology look and design. The Plate Frame itself is a thermally molded polymer that snaps on to the ballistic armor. The Frame is skeletonized to reduce weight. Its lattice also provide multiple mounting points. The Plate Frame is manufactured to fit on specific brand and models of armor plates, but S&S Precision plans to provide frames sized for all popular types of armor.. St. Petersburg Police Field DeadStop Equalizer Police Shields
I was over in St. Petersburg last week and got to see their brand new DeadStop Equalizer Police Shields that were distributed to supervisors less than a month ago. As you can see, the protective plastic sheets are still over the viewing window. Made by LCOA Composites, Inc, the DeadStop Equalizer is a NIJ level IIIa ballistic shield with a nice array of features, the most prominent of which is the ultra light weight. The Equalizer shown above clocks in at 15 pounds for the 24″ X 40″ intermediate coverage shield. DeadStop calls their composite formulation Feather Plate armor technology. S & S Precision’s Holster Extender
S & S Precision is a product development and manufacturing company in Virginia Beach, VA. I saw this on their show table at SOFIC. It is a Holster Extender made for Safariland patterned holsters utilizing the ALS system. The actual extender is the aluminum-colored plate you see between the tan holster and black belt loop attachment above. The extender is a simple sliding aluminum base with a large button on the front to let the holster drop into detents at 1.5″ and 3″ below the hip-riding holster position. The aluminum extender is protected by a special ceramic coating that also subdues the finish.

ArmorWorks New MOLLE Solution
ArmorWorks is a Chandler, AZ company that makes high-tech military armor protection. While they can up-armor your HMMWV or UH-60 Blackhawk, ArmorWorks also makes personal protective rifle plates and accessories for the soldier. At the SOFIC Show, I met ArmorWorks associate director Alex Gallo. He showed me some of his company’s latest Modular Plate Carriers, which incorporated an interesting feature: an alternative to the standard nylon gear mounting system ArmorWorks calls their MOLLE Solution. Gallo explained that common MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment attachments are rows of nylon or canvas-type material sewn in strips across the garment. Special Operations Forces Industry Conference 2012
I just got back from the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference in Tampa, FL. This was the second year we attended the Exhibit Hall. There is some cross-over from military operations to police services, especially in the SWAT arena. Funding for military experimentation often leads to technological developments that trickle down into law enforcement. While I doubt our TAC van will be sporting a Dillon Aero Titanium Gatling Gun anytime soon, I am always interested in seeing new products for the Warfighter. Revision Military Announces Batlskin Modular Head Protection
Revision Military has sent out a press release debuting their new Batlskin Modular Head Protection. This gear may seem pricey, but I think it will be the future of helmets for the Military and SWAT teams. As with most new technology, the cost per unit will probably come down as there are advances in materials and production processes. I think this will be a more common look in ten years. Morphix Technologies Chameleon Chemical Detector Review
Morphix Technologies has released a seven minute training video which gives some simple statistics and dangers about Meth Labs. The video also addresses Morphix’s Chameleon Chemical Detector, one of their products for detecting hazardous chemicals by first responders. I got my hands on a Chameleon kit for testing in October. The Morphix Chameleon is a chemical detection unit that is worn on the forearm or attached by Velcro to the uniform of a first responder. The purpose of the kit is to provide an officer, firefighter, or soldier with immediate visual identification of the presence of hazardous gases.
