Sturm, Ruger & Co.<\/a> has been busy this year in the revolver department.\u00a0 At January’s SHOT Show, we got to shoot the LCRx, an external hammer version of their polymer\/aluminum wheelgun.\u00a0 Next came the 9mm moon-clipped LCR model<\/a> introduced in October.\u00a0 Out of nowhere, Ruger just announced its new 3″ barreled LCRx<\/a> in .38 Spl. +P.<\/p>\n

“The newest LCRx is the perfect revolver for backpacking, concealed carry, home defense, or just plinking,” said Chris Killoy, Ruger’s President and Chief Operating Officer.\u00a0 “The 3″ barrel, adjustable sight, and modest weight create a great all-around gun.”<\/p>\n

I know Ruger is upscaling an existing platform, which will hold down the production costs, but I wish they had squeezed just one<\/i> more .38 Special cartridge into the stainless steel cylinder!<\/p>\n

On the upshot, this is a really light 3″ revolver at only 15.70 ounces.\u00a0 A comparably sized five rounder would be the Smith & Wesson J-frame Model 60 in 3″ barrel.\u00a0 It weighs in at 24 ounces.\u00a0 For a long hike, the feathery LCRx might be your go-to gun.<\/p>\n
