{"id":7582,"date":"2014-05-09T07:00:33","date_gmt":"2014-05-09T11:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=7582"},"modified":"2014-05-10T23:06:44","modified_gmt":"2014-05-11T03:06:44","slug":"absurd-foot-pursuits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=7582","title":{"rendered":"Absurd Police Foot Pursuits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Jq94eVNzr34?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Lowa USA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lowaboots.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lowa Boots, LLC<\/a>, the German footwear maker, has a new line of tactical boots for the service professional.\u00a0 The promotional video is a dramatized police foot pursuit.\u00a0 I do not remember using parkour in any chase I was ever in.<\/p>\n<p>I do remember being in an absurd foot pursuit when I was a rookie on Midnight Shift.\u00a0 It was like the chase scene from the movie Raising Arizona with dogs and houses and slo-mo&#8217;s of weird things passing by in the periphery.\u00a0 We interrupted a residential burglar and he took off between the houses.<\/p>\n<p>Young and spry, I accelerated into the darkness to catch him.\u00a0 It was not the nicest part of town and each property was largely unkempt.\u00a0 I jumped over a whole yard full of Little Tikes plastic toys, makeshift furniture, several fences, a red wagon, and I think a cat.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Just when I was closing on the fleeing burglar, a car screeched to a halt behind me and I heard a guy yell, &#8220;Get &#8216;im!\u00a0 Get &#8216;im!&#8221;\u00a0 A K9 handler had dogged the badguy&#8211;and me!\u00a0 Holy sh*t, I hunched my shoulders and tried to run faster.\u00a0 Like it would help.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the K9 was well socialized to the officers.\u00a0 He ran around me at full speed and wiped out our fleet of foot felon.\u00a0 A dog bite and pair of handcuffs later, our suspect was in custody.\u00a0 Despite the fact that I had run six blocks through yards and car ports (but the dog had been in pursuit for about 60 feet), the handler was congratulated by the squad for his &#8220;catch.&#8221;\u00a0 No love.<\/p>\n<p>And adding to the diminished importance of my physical efforts was the fact that the burglar had left his wallet and Florida driver&#8217;s license back at the crime scene.\u00a0 Oh, c&#8217;mon!\u00a0 I ran the guy down wearing heavy Corcoran jump boots, an aluminum PR-24, and a full sized Maglite, for Pete&#8217;s sake.<\/p>\n<p>One of the old time sergeants walked over to me, where I was panting harder than the K9.\u00a0 Without a word, he clapped my shoulder and threw a wink.\u00a0 As he silently headed back to his cruiser, I could not help but feel I had been noticed.\u00a0 It was like I had been awarded a medal.<\/p>\n<p>While wearing a pair of <a title=\"Lowa Zephyr GTX TF\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lowaboots.com\/catalog\/zephyr-gtx-tf\/3105370999\/4\/?SearchCall=1&amp;search=zephyr\" target=\"_blank\">Lowa Zephyr GTX&#8217;s<\/a> would not have changed the result of my foot chase, or given me outrageous acrobatic moves, I was none-the-less pleased with its outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Randall<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lowa Boots, LLC, the German footwear maker, has a new line of tactical boots for the service professional.\u00a0 The promotional video is a dramatized police foot pursuit.\u00a0 I do not remember using parkour in any chase I was ever in.
