{"id":7111,"date":"2014-01-31T13:00:59","date_gmt":"2014-01-31T18:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=7111"},"modified":"2014-01-30T19:11:04","modified_gmt":"2014-01-31T00:11:04","slug":"karbon-arms-shorts-out-concedes-to-taser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=7111","title":{"rendered":"Karbon Arms Shorts Out, Concedes to TASER"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/KarbonMPID-copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7113\" alt=\"KarbonMPID copy\" src=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/KarbonMPID-copy.jpg\" width=\"1700\" height=\"1247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/KarbonMPID-copy.jpg 1700w, https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/KarbonMPID-copy-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/KarbonMPID-copy-1024x751.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1700px) 100vw, 1700px\" \/><\/a>The U.S. District Court, District of Delaware has awarded TASER International $2.38 million in damages from patent infringements by Tampa, FL manufacturer <a title=\"Karbon Arms on BlueSheepdog.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bluesheepdog.com\/2011\/05\/09\/karbon-arms-alternative-to-taser\/\" target=\"_blank\">Karbon Arms, LLC<\/a>.\u00a0 Karbon Arms was also permanently restrained and enjoined from making, using, or selling any MPID or MPID-C, or any &#8220;substantial components&#8221; of their conducted electrical weapons thereof.<\/p>\n<p>TASER International filed its civil action against <a title=\"Karbon Arms Short-Lived Victory\" href=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=303\" target=\"_blank\">Karbon Arms<\/a> in May of 2011.\u00a0 TASER claimed that Karbon Arms infringed on two (later three) patents held by TASER.\u00a0 In December of 2013, District Court Judge Richard Andrews cleared the way for a trial by ruling that Karbon Arms had infringed on TASER&#8217;s U.S. Patent 7,800,885.\u00a0 A trial date was set for January 13, 2014.\u00a0 On January 10, the plaintiff and respondent entered a joint stipulation<!--more--> for final judgment with the Court and avoided trial.<\/p>\n<p>As of this week, Karbon Arms\u2019 website is gone.\u00a0 Previously, their site had a Hawaiian shirt and a message that said, &#8220;Future home of something quite cool.&#8221;\u00a0 Their Facebook page has a post from January 15 that stated, \u201cKarbon Arms has closed for business \ud83d\ude41 \u201d\u00a0 Emphasis on the frowny emoticon.<\/p>\n<p>In the vacuum left by the implosion of the company, it appears Karbon Arms\u2019 customers are without recourse.\u00a0 Unfortunately, that will leave those officers carrying an MPID without manufacturer service or support.\u00a0 I suppose if I carried an MPID, I would seriously practice transitioning to other less lethal options as the electric weapons grow older.\u00a0 Yeah, we all should be doing that anyway&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, those commanders will begin earnest efforts to replace the Karbon Arms MPIDs with another maker&#8217;s device.\u00a0 CEW&#8217;s have been an important officer safety tool, especially in the last decade.\u00a0 They exact a small price for helping reduce injuries and fatalities to both citizens and officers.<\/p>\n<p>Randall<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. District Court, District of Delaware has awarded TASER International $2.38 million in damages from patent infringements by Tampa, FL manufacturer Karbon Arms, LLC.\u00a0 Karbon Arms was also permanently restrained and enjoined from making, using, or selling any MPID or MPID-C, or any &#8220;substantial components&#8221; of their conducted electrical weapons thereof.
