{"id":6058,"date":"2013-10-04T07:09:06","date_gmt":"2013-10-04T11:09:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=6058"},"modified":"2013-10-04T07:09:06","modified_gmt":"2013-10-04T11:09:06","slug":"k9-hijinx","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=6058","title":{"rendered":"K9 Hijinx"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/RunningDog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4771 alignright\" alt=\"RunningDog\" src=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/RunningDog.jpg\" width=\"224\" height=\"147\" \/><\/a>Okay, M@ reminded me of a story.\u00a0 Back when I was in K9, when things were &#8220;in black and white&#8221; as a snarky friend once observed, a handler from a nearby agency told me about something that happened to him one night.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that at this particular department, they found a novel use for the K9 teams.\u00a0 During narcotic buys-busts, a handler and dog would be hidden in the trunk of the undercover car. \u00a0When the narc dicks up front had completed a drug deal, they would give a short honk on the horn and, Surprise!, the K9 team would pop out to apprehend any runners. \u00a0Sounds fun, right?<\/p>\n<p>One muggy Florida night, the handler was sweating his (<em>fill in the body part<\/em>) off in the trunk. \u00a0Remember, dogs don&#8217;t cool by perspiring, they pant. \u00a0Anyway, blind and mostly deaf in the non-passenger compartment, the officer-half could hear a deal in progress.\u00a0 The dog was just panting.<\/p>\n<p>While the pharmaceutical negotiations were taking place, the UC car got made and a crowd gathered. \u00a0The handler could hear a commotion outside. Suddenly, a few<!--more--> rocks were thrown. \u00a0Boom, boom!\u00a0 as rocks pelted sheet metal.\u00a0 The UC driver gassed it to escape.<\/p>\n<p>Back in the hot box, the handler thought the car had been hit by gunfire and they were now fleeing for their lives. \u00a0He told me that in a moment worthy of an episode of Scooby-Doo, he and his canine partner held on to each other for dear life!\u00a0 Roh-Noooo!\u00a0 They bounced around, trapped and helpless.<\/p>\n<p>Several blocks away, the UC&#8217;s pulled over and opened the trunk lid. \u00a0Of course, the pooch jumped out happily. \u00a0The handler then clambered out and stalked off.\u00a0 F&#8212;ck this, he snorted. \u00a0And it was the last time their unit ever did that kind of detail&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Randall<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Okay, M@ reminded me of a story.\u00a0 Back when I was in K9, when things were &#8220;in black and white&#8221; as a snarky friend once observed, a handler from a nearby agency told me about something that happened to him one night.
