\"\"<\/a>Jason Brous is a custom knifemaker whose work is the melding of his experience in CNC machining and his love of Biomechanical art.\u00a0 Biomechanical art is a synthesis of machine and organic forms.\u00a0 It was popularized by the renderings of artist H.R. Geiger, whose eerie designs are seen in the Alien<\/em> series of movies (think of the curvy exoskeleton of the Alien).<\/p>\n

Brous Blades<\/a> have their own synthesis of curves and lines that make them visually attractive and strong.\u00a0 I saw one of Brous\u2019 knives on a co-worker\u2019s desk and I think I asked to examine it after I already had the knife in my hands.<\/p>\n

The Brous Blades Silent Soldier<\/a> is a stout neck knife made of \u00bc\u201d D2 tool steel. Quarter-inch stock is very thick, especially for a knife so small.\u00a0 D2 tool steel is known for its high carbon, high chromium content.\u00a0 Respected knifemaker Bob Dozier was one of the first to use it decades ago.\u00a0 D2 holds a good edge and is reasonably “stainless.”<\/p>\n

The wharncliffe blade profile has a 2\u201d cutting edge.\u00a0 Overall, the knife is 4 \u00bc\u201d in length. Brous\u2019 knife has a flat double grind.\u00a0 The flat grind on the short blade leaves lots of steel behind and results in a rather beefy point.\u00a0 The point is sometimes a delicate area on lesser wharncliffe knives.<\/p>\n

I was intrigued by the two chamfered 7\/8\u201d holes in the stubby handle.\u00a0 Placing my index finger in the forward hole gave me that \u201cah-ha moment\u201d when the Silent Soldier locked into my palm.\u00a0 Very secure.\u00a0 Flipping the Silent Soldier around, I found it worked in the reverse grip edge out hold as well, with my pinkie riding in the forward hole.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>A short section of jimping adorns the spine of the blade.\u00a0 Two swedges are cut into the top of the blade to thin it for penetration. A scallop on the lower part of the handle and three decorative holes round out the knife.<\/p>\n

The Silent Soldier is issued a solid Kydex uniform to wear.\u00a0 The riveted sheath allows you to insert your index finger and push with the thumb to pop the knife out.\u00a0 It can be worn either with the provided 30\u201d ball-chain or a pocket clip.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I absolutely love the bulletproof feel of this knife.\u00a0 Despite this knife\u2019s unapologetic heft, it burdens the scale to only 2.4 ounces or a total of 3.2 ounces in the sheath.\u00a0\u00a0 The Soldier handles fast in the hand and is extremely difficult to disarm.\u00a0 A little knowledge of human anatomy can make its 2\u201d blade deadly.<\/p>\n

Silent Soldiers are available in wharncliffe, tanto, and drop point styles.\u00a0 They are nicely finished in either satin steel or black Cerakote.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>The Silent Soldier is as tough as a Starship Trooper (from Heinlein\u2019s novel, not the dismal movie).\u00a0 For a handmade knife of this high quality, an MSRP of $99.00 seems like a typo.\u00a0 And I just on-line ordered one for twenty bucks less than that!\u00a0 As either a defensive weapon or utility knife, the Brous Blades Silent Soldier is prepared to serve.<\/p>\n
