display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LH2DuTatIP4?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>FLIR Systems, Inc. has released a new line of thermal imagers that are affordable (by thermal imaging standards).\u00a0 The PS-series is initially aimed toward the civilian hunting market, but will branch into the law enforcement and maritime markets this year.\u00a0 The E-series is an industrial use thermal imager with police applications.\u00a0 Starting prices for the units are $1,999.00 for the PS-series and $2,500.00 for the E-series.<\/p>\n<p>I stopped at the FLIR booth at the <a title=\"SHOT Show\" href=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=149\">2012 SHOT Show<\/a> and checked out one of their Scout PS24 imagers.\u00a0 This model is an entry level device, but it has terrific tactical potential.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2204\" style=\"width: 1310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_28071.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2204\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2204\" title=\"IMG_2807\" src=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_28071.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1300\" height=\"975\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_28071.jpg 1300w, https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_28071-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_28071-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1300px) 100vw, 1300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2204\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">FLIR PS24<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The PS24 has a color LCD viewfinder display that can be toggled through White Hot, Black Hot, and multiple Red\/White Hot palettes.\u00a0 The unit makes a very effective general search<!--more--> tool.\u00a0 There is no magnification enhancement on this model, which is just right for area checking because it has a wide field of view of 24&#8242; x 18&#8242;.\u00a0 FLIR touts the thermal detection range for the PS24 at 320 meters for a man-sized target of 1.8m x 0.5m.<\/p>\n<p>I took a few photos through the PS24 around the show floor.\u00a0 The images were much clearer to the naked eye.\u00a0 It is interesting to note that had they been taken in pitch darkness, the imagery would be exactly the same.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_2815.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2205\" title=\"IMG_2815\" src=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_2815.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1425\" height=\"1065\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_2815.jpg 1425w, https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_2815-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_2815-1024x765.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1425px) 100vw, 1425px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_2811.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2206\" title=\"IMG_2811\" src=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_2811.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1371\" height=\"1041\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_2811.jpg 1371w, https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_2811-300x227.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/IMG_2811-1024x777.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1371px) 100vw, 1371px\" \/><\/a>Ruggedized and weather-tight, the FLIR Scout housing has a grippy exterior feel.\u00a0 The unit runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.\u00a0 FLIR South American Representative Marco Goes told me the battery has a 5+ hour life under continuous use on a single charge.\u00a0 A PS24 weighs 12 ounces.\u00a0 It has a USB port to connect the unit for software upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>When I was visiting St. Petersburg Police Department a few months ago, one of their sergeants showed me his freshly issued <a title=\"Deadstop Shield\" href=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=1797\">Deadstop ballistic shield<\/a> and a FLIR E30bx thermal imaging camera.\u00a0 Both items were issued to about 50 of their supervisors.<\/p>\n<p>The E30bx is not an LE-specific model from FLIR, but it has excellent potential for street use.\u00a0 With a 3.5 &#8221;
