Research, Inc.<\/a> conducted a telephone poll of 800 register voters across Florida from July 9, 2012 through July 11, 2012.\u00a0 One of the questions involved Florida\u2019s Stand Your Ground law.\u00a0 Overwhelmingly, the voters polled supported Stand Your Ground.\u00a0 It is interesting to see how the support and opposition are divided by gender, race, and region in the percentages.\u00a0 Below are the results from Mason-Dixon:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0 Florida\u2019s \u201cStand Your Ground\u201d law states that a person is justified in the use of deadly force to defend themselves if they reasonably believe that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death, great bodily harm, or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.\u00a0 A citizen has no duty to retreat and if it is determined that their use of force was justified they are immune from criminal prosecution and civil action.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The \u201cStand Your Ground\u201d law does not apply if the victim initially provokes the use of force or if they are involved in a felony crime.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you support or oppose keeping Florida\u2019s \u201cStand Your Ground\u201d law as it is currently written?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(If \u201cOPPOSED\u201d or \u201cNOT SURE\u201d)\u00a0 Do you feel Florida\u2019s \u201cStand Your Ground\u201d Trayvon Martin was killed by <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>George Zimmerman in a situation where the two were involved in a <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>physical struggle.\u00a0 Zimmerman claims he was defending himself from <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>imminent physical harm or death under the state\u2019s \u201cStand Your Ground\u201d <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>law, while a special state prosecutor disagrees and has charged <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Zimmerman with second-degree murder. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Based upon what you have read or heard about the case, do you feel <\/strong><br the strongest polarizations were between race and party affiliation.\u00a0 It must be remembered that the voters polled answered this question based upon what they know from media reports and press releases.<\/p>\n<p>Of interest to me was the fact that the Tampa Bay Times, one of the newspapers commissioning the poll ran the incorrect graphic above about the Zimmerman case in their paper.\u00a0 Despite citizen comments made almost immediately, it was not changed.\u00a0 Fair reporting?<\/p>\n<p>Mason-Dixon reports the margin of error to be 3.5% for this poll.\u00a0 The poll was conducted for
