{"id":1380,"date":"2012-04-25T13:00:22","date_gmt":"2012-04-25T17:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=1380"},"modified":"2012-04-25T12:56:03","modified_gmt":"2012-04-25T16:56:03","slug":"a-few-words-on-the-swat-attitude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/?p=1380","title":{"rendered":"A Few Words on the SWAT Attitude"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DSCN3287.2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1382\" title=\"DSCN3287.2\" src=\"http:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DSCN3287.2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"797\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DSCN3287.2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DSCN3287.2-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thinblueflorida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DSCN3287.2-1024x680.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a>I have been talking lately with a few SWAT guys about their perspectives of their different tactical teams.\u00a0 What I am hearing is nothing new.\u00a0 While I won\u2019t go into politics or particulars, I will say a central theme in my many discussions has revolved around attitude.<\/p>\n<p>Not as in <em>Attitude<\/em> with a capital \u201cI\u2019m a badass SWAT guy, so blah, blah, blah.\u201d\u00a0 Attitude, as it relates to a positive approach to training for and execution of high-risk operations.\u00a0 A shared bad morale will destroy a Team from the inside out.<\/p>\n<p>To address some of the myriad complaints I have heard, if you are focused on your agency\u2019s shortcomings related to internal or external politics, command structures, team utilization, and\/or management personalities, then I suggest you are fixated too high above your pay grade.<\/p>\n<p>The strength of a Team starts with its individual warriors.\u00a0 Each officer\u2019s concentration<!--more--> should be tactical, and not strategic.\u00a0 A key to being a good SWAT operator is commitment.\u00a0 One must be committed to training, committed to the mission, and committed to the Team and one\u2019s team members.\u00a0 We solve the problem and go home safe.<\/p>\n<p>A sh*t attitude is not only unproductive, but unsafe as well.\u00a0 It distracts an officer from the mental acuity and frostiness that contribute to situational awareness and the ability to make critical decisions.<\/p>\n<p>It is sad for me to see tactical officers in a funk and having lost some of their pride in themselves as operators or in their Teams.\u00a0 Most of us have very little ability to change the courses of our own government juggernauts.\u00a0 We do, however, possess the absolute ability to manage our own attitudes and affect those around us.<\/p>\n<p>Remember how hard you worked to make your Team and then go through SWAT school?\u00a0 And how excited you were on your first Op, when you were still trying to figure out the best gear placement on your tactical vest?\u00a0 Or maybe how proud you were the first time you wore your shiny new SWAT pin on a street uniform?<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s try to harness that positive energy to overcome those things that have no place in a training evolution or on a Call Out.\u00a0 We volunteered for this duty, right?\u00a0 We should enjoy it.\u00a0 I can tell you from personal experience that you\u2019ll miss it when it\u2019s gone.<\/p>\n<p>My best advice to those warriors who have lost their way is to return to Basics and support your Buddies.\u00a0 Don\u2019t look any farther than that.<\/p>\n<p>Randall<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have been talking lately with a few SWAT guys about their perspectives of their different tactical teams.\u00a0 What I am hearing is nothing new.\u00a0 While I won\u2019t go into politics or particulars, I will say a central theme in my many discussions has revolved around attitude.
